Electrical Helper

Position Summary

Assist electricians by performing duties that are of a lesser skill.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Load, transport, and unload material
  • As directed by Journeyman, furnish Journeyman with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Clean work area
  • Restock supplies and materials as necessary
  • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials during installation
  • Assist electricians in running wires/cable

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and one year of commercial electrical experience
  • Proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade

Special Position Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, weekends and nights
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Must be able to travel to Washington, DC, Virginia and Delaware
  • Must meet background requirements specified by client contracts for assigned projects
  • Must be able to be able to pass a drug test

Work Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical labor and work in cramped spaces
  • Problem Sensitivity – The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness – The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Near Vision – The ability to see details at close range
  • Finger Dexterity – The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Extent Flexibility – The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to life 50 pounds
  • Must possess own tools

Work Environment

  • The job may be performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings including possible hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and on construction sites.
  • Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and smoke may occur.
  • Protective safety clothing is required including appropriate construction grade boots, gloves, hardhat, goggles, pants and shirt as required.
  • Activities include extended periods of standing and extensive work with electrician’s tools, measuring devices, and motorized or air-powered tools.
