Journeyman Electrician

Position Summary

Participate in the construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of electrical appliances, systems, facilities and related electronic controls of varying design or complexity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations
  • Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions
  • Repairs and maintains high and low voltage systems
  • Ability to use conduit benders
  • Ability to bend and install ½”, ¾”, and 1” ridged conduit
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and two years of formal technical training
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program
  • Five (5) years of commercial electrical work and four (4) years of journeyman’s experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics, and sketches; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • State electrician licensure or certification
  • Proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design
  • Understanding of blueprints, site plan details and the ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade

Special Position Requirements

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, weekends, and nights
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Must be able to travel to Washington, DC, and Virginia
  • Must meet background requirements specified by client contracts for assigned projects
  • Must be able to be able to pass a drug test

  • Extent Flexibility – The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to life 50 pounds
  • Must possess own tools

Work Environment

  • The job may be performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings including possible hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and on construction sites.
  • Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and smoke may occur.
  • Protective safety clothing is required including appropriate construction grade boots, gloves, hardhat, goggles, pants and shirt as required.
  • Activities include extended periods of standing and extensive work with electrician’s tools, measuring devices, and motorized or air-powered tools.
